Oct 15, 2020 Update:

Dear Students and Customers,

As you may or may not be aware of, the Government of Ontario has announced the modified Phase2, and the closing of all Gyms and ‘Private Sports Clubs’.

These recent turn of events are very confusing for many people, let me help you better understand.

Many folks are dumbstruck by the steps taken that seem to all but kill off any hope of running a business. Some question the validity of the use of masks.

I am not here to judge. We are all entitled to our opinions. All I know is what science has proven. I’ll keep it brief in my explanation. One, this virus is different. It’s extra virulent. It’s been proven. And the numbers of deaths and infections do NOT reflect the magnitude of global damage it can do.

The science of mathematics tells us that the day before exponential growth can no longer be controlled is the day before it expands to half of full full blown max infection rates. That is to say, the day after 50% growth the entire population becomes infected. This is how exponential growth works.

Let’s look at the age-old story of the lilies in the pond.

Imagine a large pond that is completely empty except for 1 lily pad. The lily pad will grow exponentially and cover the entire pond in 30 days. In other words, after 1 day there will 2 lily pads, after 2 days there will be 4, etc. The pond is covered in 30 days.

If I asked you . . .

when would the pond be half-filled with lily pads, the temptation would be to say 15 days – half of the 30 days. In fact, the correct answer is 29 days. Right before the pond is filled, it’s half-filled; because it doubles the next month. This isn’t to say we actually have more time to survive and act. No. In fact, it’s the very opposite. We will not have the time to react at n-1. It will have been too late. This is the point. We will not see the train coming head-on before it’s too late. The lily pad will only have covered .0031% (3 thousandths of one percent) of the pond on day 15. In fact, the lily pad will only cover more than one percent of the pond on day 24.

This is entirely hypothetical . . . until it isn’t.

People. We DO NOT WANT to reach day n-1 because it will be too late. This virus needs to stop.

And so it’s my personal stance to close our physical doors* to our academy locations FOR THE TIME BEING, until this current surge or the vaccine comes out. Which ever comes first.

I am cognizant of the fact that in the best interest of the public and people like you, your child, your elderly parents, that we all act responsibly to help eradicate this virus together. Make no doubt about it. This is a sacrifice. We must all sacrifice for the greater good.

And Oracle Jiu Jitsu is committed to doing our part.

I am also cognizant of my fellow brethren in the martial arts community who have been drastically affected by these trying times. I truly wish them best of luck. Retool, rethink while we have the time. What choice do we have? It won’t be easy. Many will fail. Some will rise from the ashes.

The silver lining in all of this is that there exists great opportunities in times of conflict. And this is a time of opportunity. I advise my students and customers to consider the following:

  • Focus on building personal strength, external and internal. External via methods I’ll mention below, internal via meditation and self-reflection.
  • *There are many ways to economically and efficiently vastly improve your strength and stamina working with items you may already have in your home. Join/watch our OracleLife YouTube channel to learn more.
  • During warm sunny days I roll outside in parks and beaches. Feel free to join me. Entirely free. DM me for details.
  • Be grateful for the things you have. Like your health, family, and friends
  • Learn something new. Read those books you’ve been meaning to read. Pick up that instruments you’ve got siting in the corner collecting dust.
  • Spend more time with your family. Talk to them. Play games. Find creative outlets.
  • Do something nice for your neighbor who are less privileged or handicapped
  • Help spread the love and not hate. God knows we need more love right now
